About

The journey and the joy!

Helen started her career whilst travelling, garden projects finding her as she went from country to country. Having a background in project management meant that she was able to maintain a bigger picture of the project, whilst also getting stuck in at ground level. This led her to a site in Barbados called Debushes.

An 88 acre "bushland" that had avocado, breadfruit, lemon, lime, bananas, turmeric and so much more naturally growing, and growing very well without any kind of management. The aim of that project was to make the area safe and inviting for the local community to grow business ideas and provide a different type of space for the tourists of Barbados to visit.

Once completed and handed over, this first scene that Helen experienced of nature simply "doing it's thing" and doing it very well inspired her to investigate different ways of approaching gardening and food production once she returned to England.

Having completed Permaculture Design Certificate and spent a lot of time working with Community Supported Agriculture and in Landscape Gardening, Helen decided to make use of this knowledge and design urban gardens that consider long-term aesthetics and maintenance, as well as considering the healing flow of energy gained from natures patterns, herbal medicine and sensory expression.

Her design work became the main focus of her passion, seeing the joy a renovated garden could bring to the household gave so much satisfaction that this then became the goal! Bringing joy through well designed and thoughtful outdoor spaces.

Since 2020, Helen's work has been a mix of designing and planning organic food gardens, and creating contemporary and cosy outdoor spaces. She has also provided workshops to share skills and knowledge about integrating veg, fruit, nuts and herbs into household gardens for growing enthusiasts and children alike.

Every design and all garden maintenance that Helen carries out has sustainability and eco-friendliness in mind. She will always consider companion planting, soil analysis, and environmental factors from the start which ultimately ensures the successful implementation and longevity of design.

Her designs are unique and bring characteristics to a garden that seem to change the dimensions of a space, providing focal points of interest, colours, aromas and textures that mix functionality and comfort with a twist of seasonal and everlasting beauty. Carefully listening to each clients requirements, likes and dislikes as well as observing the current landscape ensures that all designs are above and beyond expectations.

Helen is flexible in her work and is open to opportunities all over the UK and internationally. So far her green-fingers have left an inviting impression on outdoor spaces in Mid and East Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Leicester, Sussex, Barbados, Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru so far! â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
